Round Ring
Anyone ever pawned any jewelry? I have a 1 / 2 carat round engagement ring that was bought for $ 1195.?
I went to try and pawn it and they told me they could only give me $ 400 for it! Why is this? Do Pawn just give you the least they can?
Jewelry is tricky. I am a pawnbroker. I'm really surprised they offered you so much for a 50 point round. Loan amount is based solely on the weight of the ring size and clarity of the diamond, and appearance. It does not matter what you paid for it. You can bring the receipt and I will not care. Why? Because dragonflies inflate their prices so much as 1000% of their wholesale price. Just because you bought it for $ 1200 does not mean that is what it is worth. For a 50 points with a I1 and I2 clarity, I borrow $ 150. For a 50 points, with a SI1 and SI2 clarity I borrow $ 250. For the rare VS1 or VS2 clarity, I will pay much more for up to $ 500. I doubt that yours is VS1 or VS2, because if it was you would have paid at least $ 6000 in a jewelry store. When you go to pawn something, you can get a loan based on the true value of an item. Normally the loan is 1 / 6 to 1 / 4 of the true value, depending on how badly the pawnbroker wants the item. Pawn shop you went to quoted you a steep amount. If you need the loan, I'd take it. You will probably not do better at another pawn shop. If you want to sell it, not even mess with a pawn shop. We do not buy something more than we credit. Try craigslist or ebay. Good luck!
